No more oil - electrification, is the goal of every nation
Thats all very well - Thats understood. We know its for the common good
However one need remains - there is no doubt. People still need to get about
To go to work, to visit mates. To see family, or to go on dates.
Take kids to school, do other chores. Go shopping at the local stores
And where people go, whether near or far, they jump into a motor car.
But we all know when all’s said and done, using cars is not much fun.
Tailbacks, traffic lights and queues. Congestion- every route you use.
So the change to come… could it just be, a much needed opportunity?
To do the thing we always should. Ditch our reliance on cars for good.
But rather than think to change behaviours. Instead we’ve found unlikely saviours
Who tell us - change wont be that tough. “Just simply buy some different stuff
Don’t listen to those Siren voices. You just need to make smart new eco-choices.”
With earnest smiles the sales team will now sell you an electric dream.
Just think what you are being asked to do. Thats right “Go out…. buy something new!”
A great new market has just been found to help you spend your eco-pounds
Green pleasuring that costs a packet (Like your mountain bike and Patagonia jacket).
Come on down! the salesmen say. This car’s as natural as a summer’s day!
And buying the latest best performing electric car stops global warming!
And that you deserve some great ovation for delusional green masturbation.
And Tesla drivers more and more just end up smugger than before.
And every dinner party conversation is all about lack of charging stations.
Its the most idiotic self flattery to think that your car’s battery
With low-wage workers employed to fill them, with precious metals mined by children
Will stop global warming in its tracks. End of story just relax.
And all that climate stress and grief, will somehow be solved by your Nissan Leaf!
We should not be surprised or think its funny. Green progress only when it makes good money
A system that ensures large amounts still fills up corporate bank accounts
Do you really want to line the pockets of rich men while they play Space Rockets?

The real solution to transport needs won’t come at the end of charging leads!

Where motor cars no longer rule. And no car at all is seen as cool
When you look Its plain to see, we need an Integrated Transport Strategy.
Time for a new set of Highway Codes. Living spaces not based round roads.
Its monorails, buses trains and trams. Cycle lanes and pedestrians.
